cache-warmer plugin: no need to rewrite the whole cache after Claude Code takes a break
Original title: Made a plugin so Claude Code doesn't rewrite the whole cache after you take a break
The author released the cache-warmer plugin to fix a problem: after you step away from Claude Code for more than 5 minutes, the next prompt has to rewrite the prompt cache at full price, so costs pile up over long sessions and the first reply gets slower.
If you step away from Claude Code for more than 5 minutes, your next prompt pays full price to rewrite the prompt cache. On a long session that adds up, and the first reply after a break is slower too.
cache-warmer fixes that. Right before the cache expires it sends one tiny refresh, so when you come back your prompt reads the cache instead. It only refreshes when it actually saves money, it caps how many times it does it while you're idle, and the refresh never shows up in your conversation. No telemetry.
Idea comes from the cache warmer in Pi. Clawd pops up above the prompt when it refreshes, which I'm weirdly happy about.
